How Couple Therapy Can Support Change
Couple therapy helps partners recognise the cycle that keeps disagreements going and practise different ways of responding. Sessions may focus on listening, emotional needs, repair, boundaries or practical agreements. Skills are tested between appointments and reviewed together. Outcomes depend on participation, circumstances and suitability; therapy does not guarantee reconciliation or remove responsibility for harmful behaviour.
What actually happens in a session
Both partners have space to describe concerns while the therapist clarifies goals and ground rules. Participation is voluntary. Confidentiality, separate contact and safety are discussed before deeper work, and you can ask how differing accounts will be handled.
Understanding your responses can open room for new choices that fit your everyday life.
Understand The Process06 / Choosing your practitioner
How to Choose the Right Couple Therapist in Mumbai
Relevant qualifications and professional training are the starting point. Beyond these, a helpful therapeutic relationship depends on experience, expertise, transparency and how well you feel understood. Consider these seven qualities when choosing support for couple therapy.
- Experience: Hands-on experience with couple therapy, across different people, situations and needs.
- Relevant expertise: Training in couples work and experience with communication, emotional connection and conflict, while respecting both partners’ choices and safety.
- Empathy and warmth: You feel heard without judgement, pressure or hurry.
- Active listening: The practitioner takes time to understand your account and checks their understanding before offering guidance.
- Cultural understanding: Your family circumstances, community expectations, values and everyday Mumbai life are considered respectfully.
- Clear, honest communication: Methods, possible benefits, limitations, fees and goals are explained in plain language.
- Ethics and patience: Your privacy, consent and choices are respected. You can ask questions, pause an exercise and discuss alternatives or referral.
Qualifications open the door. Experience, expertise and a respectful working relationship help you choose the right support.

Enquire About Sessions09 / First session
What happens in your first session
An initial session is a chance to explain your concerns in your own words and ask questions about the suggested approach. Your practitioner may explore relevant history, day-to-day functioning and the priorities you want to address. It begins with a warm conversation about what has been happening, how long it has affected you and what you would like to change.
- A short assessment, only if it helps, explained in plain words.
- A first look at the interaction patterns and shared concerns you want to address, so they begin to make sense.
- One or two practical tools you can try during the week, where appropriate.
- A clear plan: how often you might meet and how progress will be reviewed.
You do not need a perfect explanation of your concerns to begin a careful and supportive conversation.
You do not need to have it all figured out. Begin where you are.

Clinical Assessment Tools Used Globally
Recognised questionnaires may help a suitably qualified practitioner understand symptoms and monitor change alongside a careful conversation. Selection depends on your concern and the professional role of the person providing care; using a questionnaire is not a promise of a particular diagnosis or outcome.
GAD 7
The Generalised Anxiety Disorder seven item questionnaire describes recent anxiety symptoms. It may support screening and monitoring when anxiety is relevant, with professional interpretation of responses.
PHQ 9
The Patient Health Questionnaire nine item scale describes depressive symptoms. Responses need appropriate interpretation and follow up; a score alone does not establish a diagnosis.
DASS 21
The Depression Anxiety and Stress Scales short form describes dimensions of emotional distress. It may help track symptom patterns over time when suitable for the person and context.
These questionnaires support assessment; they do not independently diagnose a condition, verify past life narratives, measure relationship compatibility or prove the need for a particular technique. Your practitioner should explain which tools, if any, are appropriate. Reflection and wellbeing exercises are not substitutes for clinical assessments.
Understand your concerns more clearly through suitable tools and a thoughtful conversation.

Couple Therapy Questions Answered
Why do we keep having the same argument?
Repeated arguments often involve a cycle of interpretations, feelings and responses rather than only the topic being debated. Therapy can help you notice that cycle and practise changes in timing, listening or repair. Each partner’s responsibility still matters; a shared pattern should not be used to minimise intimidation or harm.
What if one partner withdraws and the other pushes for answers?
A therapist can help both partners describe what happens during withdrawal and pursuit, including how each response affects the other. Work may include agreed pauses, clearer requests and a reliable time to return to discussion. A pause should support regulation, rather than become punishment or an indefinite refusal to communicate.
Can couple therapy help after infidelity?
Therapy can support conversations about the impact of betrayal, accountability, boundaries and the choices ahead. Rebuilding trust is voluntary and may take time; it is not guaranteed. The therapist should avoid pressuring forgiveness or reconciliation and help both partners clarify whether their goals and commitments are compatible.
Can we discuss differences in sexual desire?
Yes, when the practitioner has relevant competence and both partners consent to the discussion. Differences in desire can involve relationship, stress, health or other factors. Therapy should not pressure either person into sexual activity. Medical or specialist sexual health assessment may be appropriate alongside conversations about intimacy and expectations.
How can therapy help with money arguments?
Money disagreements can reflect different expectations about security, fairness, autonomy or responsibility. Sessions can help make those meanings clearer and support practical agreements about spending or shared tasks. Therapy does not replace financial advice, and financial control or restriction should be assessed as a possible safety concern rather than ordinary disagreement.
Can we work on parenting differences?
Partners can explore values, responsibilities and routines that create tension, then develop clearer agreements about everyday parenting. The aim is not identical opinions, but a more workable way to decide and respond. Concerns about a child’s wellbeing may require separate specialist assessment rather than being addressed only through couple sessions.
Does a couple therapist take sides?
A therapist should give each partner space to speak and make the process clear. Fairness does not mean treating all behaviour as equally acceptable. Threats, coercion and violence require appropriate responses. Ask how the practitioner balances hearing both perspectives with accountability, safety and the goals you have agreed together.
Can we join online from different locations?
Possibly, after discussing suitability, privacy and connection arrangements. Both partners need a private place and agreement about who can hear or record the session. Confirm what happens if the connection fails or conflict escalates. Online access does not remove the need for safety assessment or appropriate boundaries between appointments.
What if one of us wants repair and the other wants separation?
Different goals are important to discuss openly rather than assume away. A therapist can help clarify each person’s position and what kind of conversation is possible. The process may focus on decision making rather than repair. Neither partner should be pressured into reconciliation, separation or a commitment they do not choose.
Where can I book couple therapy in Mumbai?
Holistic Living lists appointment options in Chembur East, Bandra West, Powai and Andheri East, Worli and Prabhadevi, Nariman Point, Thane West and Vashi, Navi Mumbai. Contact the team to confirm a suitable practitioner, the exact address and current availability before booking or making travel arrangements.
What happens in the first session?
The first appointment focuses on understanding your concern, relevant history and what you would like to change. Your practitioner explains suitability, confidentiality and the proposed approach. Exercises are not automatic. You can ask questions and agree the next step before deciding whether to continue with further appointments.
How much does couple therapy cost?
Fees at Holistic Living Wellness Studio start at INR 1,999/-. The fee depends on the practitioner and appointment selected. Your introductory call lasts 10 minutes and helps clarify suitability, the proposed approach and booking details. The team will explain the applicable session fee before you book.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no single number that suits everyone. Your goals, circumstances, the concern and your response influence the plan. Ask for an initial estimate and agreed review points. Decisions about continuing should reflect meaningful changes in everyday life, with space to adapt the approach or consider other support.
How long is an appointment?
The introductory call lasts 10 minutes. This gives you time to discuss your concern, practitioner options and the proposed approach. A full appointment is separate; its duration depends on your needs and the session format. The team will confirm the full appointment length when arranging your booking.
Can I attend online?
Online appointments may be possible after discussing suitability and practitioner availability. Arrange privacy, a reliable connection and a place where you can participate comfortably. Confirm what happens if the call disconnects. Some circumstances require in person assessment or specialist support, so convenience alone should not determine the format you choose.
Is the conversation confidential?
Ask your practitioner to explain confidentiality, record keeping and any limits before beginning. These may include safety, safeguarding or other professional obligations relevant to the service. Clarify what information is shared within the team and obtain agreement before involving relatives, employers or other professionals in your care or discussions.
How do I choose the right practitioner?
Ask about relevant qualifications, professional background and experience with your concern. Discuss the methods proposed, consent, fees and how progress will be reviewed. Organisational accreditation is different from an individual’s clinical qualification. Choose someone who welcomes questions, explains limitations and respects your comfort rather than offering guaranteed results.
Do I need a diagnosis before contacting the centre?
You can enquire without having a diagnosis or a perfectly organised explanation. Describe what is troubling you and how it affects everyday life. The initial conversation helps clarify options; a fuller assessment may still be needed. If specialist evaluation is appropriate, ask how referral and coordination would be handled.
Will I have to share everything immediately?
No. You can begin with what feels manageable and explain that certain topics are difficult to discuss. Ask how the practitioner handles pauses, distress and consent. Some information is important for suitability and safety, but personal disclosure should be approached collaboratively rather than treated as a test of commitment.
Can I continue medication or other treatment?
Tell the practitioner about medication, health conditions and other support so the plan can fit your circumstances. Do not stop or change prescribed treatment without advice from the treating clinician. Discuss coordination where helpful, including what information would be shared and whether the proposed service is appropriate alongside existing care.
Are results guaranteed?
No. A responsible practitioner should not promise a cure, permanent change or a fixed timetable for success. Agree realistic goals and review how you are functioning outside sessions. If the approach is not helping, discuss adapting it or seeking another form of support rather than feeling obliged to continue indefinitely.
What should I prepare before attending?
Think about the concern you want to discuss, what you hope might change and any questions about the process. Bring relevant health information if appropriate. You do not need to rehearse your story. For online appointments, arrange privacy and ask about practical requirements before the scheduled time so you can participate comfortably.
Can I request a different approach or practitioner?
You can raise concerns if the approach or relationship does not feel helpful. Ask what adjustments or alternatives are available and whether another practitioner may be more suitable. Continuity can matter, but you should understand the plan and feel able to ask questions without pressure to accept a method you do not want.
What if I need more urgent or specialised support?
Tell the team if symptoms are severe, worsening or affecting your ability to function or stay safe. A routine enquiry form is not an emergency service. Seek appropriate urgent healthcare when needed. The practitioner should recommend specialist assessment when your needs fall outside their training, competence or the scope of the proposed service.
How do I request the free 10-minute consultation?
Use either enquiry form or contact the team on WhatsApp at +91 93210 73548. Briefly describe what you are looking for and your preferred location or online format. The free 10-minute introductory conversation is subject to suitability and helps clarify options before you choose whether to book a full appointment.
